Subterranean Shunning Grounds in Elden Ring is mentioned as a Location. Players can find this location in Leyndell, Royal Capital. In order to go inside the Subterranean Shunning Grounds, you have to first go down the stairs that are located at the Avenue Balcony Site of Grace and then make an immediate left turn after exiting the double grating doors.

Step one is to make your way to the railing, and then step two is to head in a northwesterly direction until the rooftops are directly to your left. Once you're on the rooftops, hop over the railing to get there, and then make your way down to the plaza. Turning to face north from the center of the plaza. The wooden framework of the well will be discernible between the ruined building and the path leading to it.

Subterranean Shunning-Grounds NPCs and Merchants

Dung Eater is the NPC that players meet in Subterranean Shunning-Grounds.

The sewer-gaol houses his corporeal body at this point in time. When you reach the place of grace on the Underground Roadside, turn to the northeast and look for a grate in the floor that leads to the aqueducts or sewers. You will locate a ladder if you continue north, past the Rats and the Giant Miranda Sprout. A room may be found at the very top of the ladder. Inside this room, a Fingercreeper and a Lesser Fingercreeper will emerge from the earth. The holding cell is located at the back. In order to unlock it, you will need the Sewer-Gaol Key, which can also be obtained from Dung Eater in the Roundtable Hold. For further information, please go to his NPC page.

Subterranean Shunning-Grounds Walkthrough

Beginning from the Avenue Balcony Site of Grace in Leyndell, the Royal Capital, is the best place to look for the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds. After you have been assaulted by the Leyndell Knight armed with a greatbow, descend the stairs, and then turn left at the bottom of the steps. It is possible to obtain Ash of War: Thunderbolt by jumping over the balcony and heading towards the golden Teardrop Scarab. Defeat the Albinaurics that are scuttling throughout the region and search the area's northernmost corner for a well. (You have gone too far if you have traveled to a location that provides a view of a big open sewage region that is guarded by a Broken Statue. Go back and give it another shot). After descending this well and retrieving the Rune Arc, head to the northwest of the area and search for a route that will eventually lead you to the Shunning-Grounds. Before ascending down the ladder, you have the opportunity to kill any Omen that are guarding the main path.

In the event that you have previously finished Crumbling Farum Azula and Leyndell is now known as Leyndell, Ashen Capital, the Shunning-Grounds will still be completely unharmed and available to you. Walk downhill until you reach the area's middle, where you will find an open manhole. After you have jumped in and descended gently, you should land on a support beam that has the Crimson Amber Medallion +2 on it. You are able to descend onto the balcony that looks out over the main area if you are standing on this beam.

Once you have descended to the main route, turn left and travel in a northeasterly direction. The Underground Roadside Site of Grace is located on your left as you travel along the road. This will act as your primary checkpoint because there are a number of shortcuts that go back to this location from a variety of ways.

Leyndell Catacombs

Turn to your left after you and Grace have exited the room. If you continue along the main road and head a little further to the northeast, you will come to an alcove on the opposite side of the Omen. If you are able to outrun or fight this Omen, the body it is inspecting has the Bloodsoaked Mask and Bloodsoaked Manchettes on it. If you go down the ladder in the alcove, you'll find yourself in a vast room with a number of pipes and a large number of Fanged Imps who are waiting to ambush you. Take care of them in whatever way you see fit in order to open up the path ahead.

There is some Freezing Grease on the platform that you begin on. Make your way to the next wooden platform by climbing up the nearest pipe and following it until you reach it. There, you will find some Serpent Arrows. Take out the Imps from a safe distance, then go to the next platform while keeping an eye out for the Fanged Imp ambush and pick up some Fire Grease. You can get a Somber Smithing Stone (6) at the end of the pipe if you follow it forward and down its incline. The second fork in the path will take you to some wooden platforms on the other side of the room, where there is a dead body and a solemn smithing stone (7). Enter through the doorway and continue up the stairs.

As soon as you take a peek through the crack in the door, you will see a chamber on your left that contains a dead body. However, an Omen is keeping watch over it to ensure that no one steals the incantation for Shadow Bait. You will find a lever to your right that, when pulled, will open the enormous grate that is located next to it. This will allow you to enter this side of the pipe room from the Site of Grace without having to travel through Fanged Imp territory.

Return to the Pipe Room from this vantage point, and take a look below. You can make it to a giant pipe that you can hop onto without danger. After descending the enormous pipes, you will find yourself on the wet floor of the area. When the Giant Crayfish comes for you, you can escape to safety by using the pipe parts. If you run into these pipe components instead of the lobsters, you can bypass them. Continue to follow the wall in a southeasterly direction until you come to an opening. Through this opening, you will be able to enter the Leyndell Catacombs Site of Grace and seek refuge from the Giant Crayfish. You can find Mohg's Shackle leaning against the wall to the southeast if you turn around and head back out. If you are successful in killing the Giant Crayfish, the dead bodies in this region contain a total of two Smithing Stones (7) and two Somber Smithing Stones (7).

You can empty out that dungeon by going down the steps, which are accessible from the Site of Grace in the Leyndell Catacombs. In any case, you can ascend the steps, then turn right to use the elevator. Ride it up while avoiding the always respawning phantom soldiers that are harassing you. Illusory walls can be seen running underneath this set of stairs that you can see here. If you hit them, a gap will open up beneath the platform; after that, look to the left and hit the wall immediately to your left to locate a Haligdrake Talisman +1. Climb the stairs to the top, retrieve the Golden Rune (11) along the way, and then pull the lever at the end of the passage to activate a door that will lead directly into the room containing the incantation for the Shadow Bait spell.

The Dung-Eater

Proceed out of the Underground Roadside Grace room and turn left when you reach the hallway. You will find a hole in the floor grates if you continue to make your way as close as possible to the main road's terminus. Put your head in this crater.

When you reach the bottom of this drop, turn to your right and look toward the southeast to see some Preserving Boluses at the dead end. After that, you should turn around, fight your way through the rats, and continue down this tunnel until you reach the very end, where it will turn left. On the path that leads forward, you will come across a total of three Giant Miranda Sprouts. Start by torching them, then make your way up the ladder at the finish. After retrieving the Rune Arc, continue through the tunnel until you reach an intersection and turn right. The fingercreeper is keeping watch over the corpse, which contains a Lost Ash of War. After you go passed this, you'll be able to enter the Dung Eater's jail. Please be aware that in order to unlock this door, you will need the Sewer-Gaol Key. While you must be in possession of a Seedbed Curse in order to get this key from the Dung Eater in the Roundtable Hold, you can do so if you have one. If you want to complete the Dung Eater's mission, you can find him in this cell to give him the Seedbed Curses he needs to build his Mending Rune. If you do this, the quest will be completed.

The Next Shortcut

After dropping down the open grate, on the right wall is a pipe. The Shunning-Grounds become labyrinthine.

Drop down the first hole after following the pipe. You'll find a grate with Wraith Callers. Take care of them, then get the Stonesword Key at the end of the room. Using the Stonesword Key, open the cell door. After this door, turn left and ascend. Your previous hole should be on your right; you're now on the other side. Left, but watch for another hole. This one drops you near a Revenant. Jump over the pit, grab the Rainbow Stone Arrows (Fetched), and turn right. Follow the pipe down to the end, picking up Fireproof Dried Liver on the right. The ladder ends at a room with an Omen,  Somber Smithing Stone (8).

Pass the Omen and ascend the ladder to another room. The corpse on your left holds a Smithing Stone (7) guarded by two Omens. A lever on your right opens a grate that goes back to the main road and to Underground Roadside Grace. Right ahead is a doorway. This leads to a cylinder's rim. Follow the broken stairs down to get Grace Mimics, however the correct way down is on the left. Look over the brink to find a safe ledge. Killing a silver Teardrop Scarab gives a Somber Smithing Stone (6). Follow the broken stairs to reach String, then enter the next doorway.

Follow the passageway, killing Putrid Corpses and Miranda Sprouts, reach the Fire Grease guarded by Miranda Sprouts. From here, you may snipe a ladder and Giant Miranda Sprout. After killing it, fight Basilisks and pick up Poisoned Stone Clumps. The exit leads to a platform with Nomad Ashes and a Basilisk ambush. Climb the ladder to find a route under the stairs. Enter another pipe. Through it, kill two Basilisks and a Commoner. The locked door is a subsequent shortcut. Follow the conduit to a room with an Omen. Kill this Omen for Omen Bairn, plunder the bodies, and climb the ladder. Cross the wooden platform and unlock the twin doors to reach the opposite side of the Underground Roadside Site of Grace.

To The Cathedral Of The Forsaken

Start at Underground Roadside Grace and enter the opened door. Instead of returning to the room with the Omen ladder, glance right and step on the pipe. Follow it to its finish, killing more Fanged Imps, then drop left onto another big pipe. Escape to the long wooden platform northeast, then kill any pursuing Fanged Imps. Fanged Imps ambush the Golden Rune entryway (10). Kick down the ladder to your left to open a shortcut that skirts Fanged Imp territory on return journeys. Jump down a large square platform on your left, then walk on the pipe and jump into the aperture.

This is the final set of labyrinthine pipes. A rat may flee. If you want to jump ahead, follow the rat.

Follow the rat. This portion of the pipe maze is enemy-free and has Crimson and Cerulean Teardrop Scarabs. Mark the first branching point with a Rainbow Stone, then take the right branch, then the first left, and then turn right to discover Eye of Yelough. Backtrack, skip the first right, and turn left at the T. Follow the pipe down to the Warming Stones. Turn left then right at the T-junction to reach a Smithing Stone (8). Turn right at the Rainbow Stone. Turn U at the crossroads to find a Golden Rune (8). Follow this road to a Smithing Stone (7). This pipe leads to the Pipe Room. If you've followed the guide so far, backtrack to your Rainbow Stone and continue.

Take the rat's lead. Turn left at the Golden Rune 11 branching point and plunge down the pit. Straight will put you on the wrong side of the locked door, requiring extra retracing. If you went left, get the Commoner, pick up the Smithing Stone (5), and open the right door. Instead of going through the door you just opened, descend the pipe and stairs until you reach a room with Living Jars and a Ritual Pot. Take the right exit and the elevator to the chamber's bottom. The Forsaken Depths Grace you see is where you fight Mohg, the Omen.

After the boss encounter, loot the treasure chest for Erdtree's Favor +1 and rest. Attack the chest's wall to unlock a secret path. If you haven't defeated Morgott the Omen King, you're stuck. If you have, you can progress to a tough platforming challenge that leads to Hyetta's final quest destination. See Cathedral of the Forsaken for more on the loot and platforming problem.
